Silk on smooth skin, a chamois across the hood of a new Corvette, a hot knife through butter, these are just a few of the thoughts that come to mind as I sit down to review the Kimber Pro Carry II. I felt like an excited kid, who just got her hands on a new toy, after I fired this pistol. The slide action was the smoothest of any firearm I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The trigger was light and crisp, the grips checkered, and secure in my hand.

The pistol we reviewed had about 1000 rounds through it, no aftermarket modifications, it was factory condition,as it was when if first came out of the box. As they say, "That my friends is the deal," an out of the box, short barrel, concealed carry size 1911 that Kimber has added a bunch of factory mods that come as standard features. No need to purchase a standard 1911 and send it out for a custom slide, custom sights, custom grips, custom trigger and all those other things that add up to a pile of money. The Pro Carry II, though not inexpensive, comes complete with most of the popular mods we all want or wish for on a standard 1911. Comparatively in both time and money the Kimber Pro Carry II beats buying a stock 1911 and sending it out to a gunsmith to modify and send back.

I found it super accurate, light enough for a lady, and its shorter frame and barrel length much more concealed carry friendly. A full size 1911 is just not a very practical option for a small framed woman, even the average sized guy will often put his full size 1911 in the drawer or leave it on the kitchen counter at home, as a full size 1911 is a bit of a beast except for open carry. With its shorter profile the Kimber Pro Carry II could certainly work for an in the waistband or on the belt, under a coat or over-shirt carry piece for most people.

The .45 caliber speaks for itself with a ton of stopping and penetration power, yet the grip was so positive and the slide so smooth that I felt very secure with it. Time to back on target was very fast and the whole shooting experience of the Kimber was sweet. The safety was positive and easy to reach, the magazine release crisp and accessible and the capacity of the magazine at 7 +1 rounds allows for two to the chest if facing multiple attackers. Yes, I do believe that all firearms should carry a magazine that can handle a small pick up truck full of bad guys without needing to reload. I've never met anyone that felt that they brought too much ammo to a gun fight, have you?!

All in all... with all of my rounds firmly in a tight group in the black at 7 yards, no hand fatigue, and all of the features that I've always dreamed of on a custom 1911, who needs one of those coveted, highly customized show pieces, when it comes standard on the Kimber Pro Carry II. I didn't hesitate a second in adding this firearm to my "personal wish list." Guns Up Salute to Kimber, I think they got this one, spot on! - Anna

Rikku fairs originally from Alaska, the last of the great wildernesses. Her father taught her to shoot, not an unusual skill for a girl from a state where you're as likely to run into a bear on your front porch as you're a neighbor's cat. Rikku currently lives in Seattle. She used to play hockey, until an injury took her out of the game, she enjoys skating, camping, and hiking in the Pacific Northwest's beautiful outdoors. Night time will find her either gaming on first person shooters or enjoying the local music and club scene. She is proficient with both handguns and rifles, her favorite is the AR15. So... Mr. Vice President, who says girls can't aim and handle an AR15! Joe who?

Her favorite quote: "I've come here to kick ass and chew bubblegum; and I'm all out of bubblegum."
